Hunters Lodge is Located at Kiboko Springs between the two major cities Nairobi and Mombasa,was established in 1958 by the Scottish author and hunter John Alexander Hunter. Hunters Lodge was reopened in 2014 after being fully restored by Mada Hotels. The Lodge now offers top quality accommodation that combines standard camping facilities with modern features in a traditional colonial style. Previously the Lodge provided only modest accommodation and basic camping facilities. Renovations began in 2012 and included 50 new rooms in addition to the existing 12 as well as a state of the art conference centre for Nairobi based companies and organizations seeking quiet retreat out of the city. As well as having an ideal location for conferences, Hunters Lodge is well positioned for those travelling to and from the coast to do a spot of shopping. Located at Kiboko Springs,some 160km from Nairobi, the Lodge is set in 25 acres of beautiful gardens and surrounded by un spoilt countryside. The area is home to over 100 bird species, so guests have an opportunity to try their hand at birdwatching. J.A. Hunter who built the original lodge in the 1950s was one of the most prolific big game hunters of his era. He later turned to wildlife conservation as well as writing about his adventures and of course, becoming involved in the hospitality sector. Following his death in 1963, the lodge was run by his wife Hilda and their sons.
