The newest addition to Coqui Coqui Residences & Spas, Casa de Los Santos is located in the heart of Izamal, a small colonial town located between Valladolid and Merida in the Yucatan Peninsula. It is famed for being a Mexican 'pueblo magico' (honoured as a destination graced with 'natural beauty, cultural riches and historical relevance'), and one of its most distinctive features being the shade of golden yellow, which the whole city is painted. In 1993, Pope John Paul II visited the city and its strinkling Catholic convent; in honour of the Vatican visit, the exteriors of all Izamal's buildings were painted this shade of yellow, and so it has stayed, now known to locals as 'the yellow town'. The city also boasts five Mayan pyramids open to the public (it remains a city of pilgrimage to Mayan, who believe Izamal promotes good luck for health, the arts and agriculture) and the city was built around these historic monuments.
